Toucans have huge, colorful bills that look heavy—but they’re actually extremely light, made of a spongy, hollow bone covered in keratin. 🐦🌈 This allows them to reach fruit on thin branches that other birds can’t, without tipping the branch over.

Even stranger: toucans can regulate their body temperature with their bills. Blood flow to the bill increases to dump heat, acting like a natural “radiator” on hot Panama days. So their flashy bill isn’t just for show—it’s basically an air conditioner.
