Collection: Pufferfish Collection

Pufferfish can inflate themselves to several times their normal size by swallowing water (or air) when threatened. 🐡 But the truly bizarre part? Some species in Japan actually create intricate, symmetrical sand “crop circles” on the seafloor—up to 6 feet wide—to attract mates. These geometric masterpieces are made entirely by the fish using their fins!

Even stranger: pufferfish are extremely toxic—their bodies contain tetrodotoxin, which is about 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide, yet some predators and humans still eat them carefully as a delicacy.
